One of the things you might not know about me, is that I used to play trumpet and saxophone (and started learning bagpipes). I started on trumpet at school marching band, then started a conservatory, and then private sax lessons. Since I was young, playing was a huge part of my life, even though I wasn’t so big on practicing.
It’s been a while since I posted anything. With everything that’s going on in the world and consequently, in my life, it’s easy to forget and just not update here.
So, as least for now, everything is fine. I’ve been working from home since the end of February, and I came to Brazil (my home country) on March 11, just a bit before everything blew up. Of course, that leaves me with the question: When will I return to Canada?
And this is a difficult question to answer. There are benefits and risks on both places, and of course, the risk of traveling.
If I stay here, I’m in my parent’s house, it’s easier to go out to walk around a bit and don’t get into contact with anyone. On the other side, Canada is my home now, and where I have good health insurance. So basically, I’ll wait a few more days to decide what to do.
For now, I’m working from here (as my whole company is working from home anyway), watching Netflix with my parents and chilling at my old house. So far so good!
Everyone stay safe, and use this time to read, develop your hobbies, play games!
Yesterday I went to another Toronto Library branch, the Bloor/Gladstone Library. I’ve never been there, and I really liked, because it looks beautiful and they have a lot of comic books and manga. Back in Brazil I never though someday I would be borrowing manga and comics from a library.
The manga is Delicious in Dungeon, published by Yen Press. I’ve been interested in it for some time, and now it’s finally time to check if it’s good.
When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions…and a member! They’re eager to go back and save her, but there is just one problem: If they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they’re sure to starve on the way! But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: “Let’s eat the monsters!” Slimes, basilisks, and even dragons…none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!
Next I have volumes 3 and 4 of Sex Criminals. I have read the first couple volumes a while ago, and I can guarantee that IT IS SO MUCH FUN! The idea is really strange and sounds absurd, but hey, give it a try. Besides being really funny, it also has a lot of depth about sexuality and relationships.
Suzie’s just a regular gal with an irregular gift: when she has sex, she stops time. One day she meets Jon and it turns out he has the same ability. And sooner or later they get around to using their gifts to do what we’d ALL do: rob a couple banks.
I also borrowed the first two volumes of Bee And Puppycat for my wife, as she wanted to read it for a long time, and she is reading comics to practice her English skills and increase her vocabulary.
A quirky new take on the magical girl genre with Bee, the forever unemployed main character who can’t seem to figure out life, and the mysterious PuppyCat, a stray…whatever it is…that she stumbled across who has a powerful secret.
Last Sunday was the Pride Parade 2018 in Toronto, and I went there with my wife. She actually participated in the IKEA group with a friend who works there, while I watched the parade. It was wonderful, and I’m very glad that the weather cleared up at the time it started.
After the parade, we me with a friend from college and a couple of her friends and had a coffee. (My wife had an Iced White Maccha Latte)
Recently I bought a DualShock 4 controller to use on my computer, so both me and my wife could play something occasionally. I still have a lot of unplayed games on my steam library, but of course, I wanted to play something newer, so I bought Tooth & Tail, which was on sale on Steam. And it was a damn good decision.
This Friday I went to a Indigo bookstore with my wife. The idea was only to browse a bit, but of course we ended up buying things.
Last Sunday I went to Anime North. It was my first convention here in Canada, and I’m very happy that I went there.
Finally I’ve bought new earphones. After many years using stock earphones that come with my smartphones (Lumia 920 and Zenfone 3), I’ve decided to get a pair of Bluetooth earphones.
It took some time for me to decide, because I didn’t know what I really wanted and how much I wanted to spend. But in the end, I decided to buy a cheaper pair, and then in the future I’ll buy something better. Or not.
Initially I wanted some noise cancelling headphones, but they are expensive, usually bass focused (I don’t like it), and also I use glasses, and have some problem with my ear-jaw articulation, so headphones aren’t that comfortable.
I decided to buy the Anker Soundbuds Flow. The isolation is good enough, as it comes with 5 different sizes of plugs, and the sound is more neutral than most of the other earphones. It has a good bass, but it’s not that much enhanced as in other options.
So far I’m very happy with my purchase. It’s very convenient to use during my 1:30 hour long commute to college, and when I’m working at the computer. And it doesn’t have a noticeable lag when watching videos, as I was able to watch anime on my phone without getting annoyed by the delay.
PS: I lost them at Anime North last Sunday. So don’t trust the magnets that much, especially if you’re using a backpack and are in a crowded convention.
I’m going to Anime North tomorrow, and I’m very excited to go, as this is going to be my first anime convention outside of Brazil. If anyone else is going on Sunday, you can contact me on Twitter and we can meet there. My username there is @geek_astronaut.
Sorry for not updating a lot here recently, but I was quite busy as my classes were about to start. And of course, I guess I may end up busier now that classes started.
I’m starting a Graduate Certificate (Market Research & Analytics) at Centennial College here in Toronto, and it’s 2 semesters long, so at the end of the year I’ll be graduating, hopefully.
Going to and coming back from college, I watched an episode of The Ministry of Time, a fun Spanish time travel show available on Netflix.
On Mondays I have only one class, and the teacher seems very good. How tomorrow’s classes are great too.
One thing that surprised me: the coffee shops there were closed before 3pm. WHAT??? I didn’t try going to the restaurant/cafeteria, but c’mon.
Well, that’s it for today!
